Why Are Motorized Scooters So Popular?
With gasoline pushing $4 a gallon, motorized scooters aren’t just for the kids anymore. As early as 2005, motor scooter sales began soaring in unprecedented ways. Since then, the trend has only intensified, and it’s easy to see why.
When you fill up your car with gas, you can easily shell out $30 or $40. Put that same amount of fuel into a gas powered scooter, and at 50 to 100 mpg, you’ll be riding happy for a couple months. Or if you’re using an electric scooter, you can walk away from the oil market entirely, and save money hand over fist by plugging your ride into an outlet. The appeal of fuel savings are hard to resist-but there are other reasons for the surging popularity of motorized scooters.
For example, the fun factor. If you’ve had the opportunity to hop on a motor scooter recently, you know what we’re talking about. Students use them to cruise across campus. Professionals commute between the office and downtown lunch meetings. Vacationers bring them to the boat or resort. Middle school kids zip down the block. The common factor? People using motorized scooters to cover distances they could just as easily walk! But why walk when you can hop on board, lean back in ergonomic comfort, and scoot?
Add to this the fact that major scooter manufacturers like Honda, Yamaha, and legendary Italian brand, Piaggio, are creating stylish and economical new models, and the allure of motor scooters is almost self evident-one reason that you won’t see a lot of advertising for them. Today’s motor scooters look good, they’re capable of highway speeds, they store easily, and they’re increasingly fuel efficient, not to mention environmentally friendly. What’s not to like?
